Matin therapy orientation is integrative, fitting with clients’ needs. He has been trained in Psychodynamic/analytic, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Experiential, and Person-centered therapy. He uses a multicultural lens to see the client. Throughout his academic and clinical journey, he actively put effort on decolonizing mental health through presenting & researching on multicultural issues in counseling and advocating for social justice in his community.
The immigrant experience is of particular interest for Matin. He believes that with having a multicultural identity, one may have parts that are born in different countries/cultures. He is eager to help these parts feel welcomed, nurtured, and empowered.
Matin was born and raised in Bandung, Indonesia. His journey has taken him to the United States for his bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology and Criminology at University of Illinois at Chicago, where he finds and cultivates passion in practicing mental health care and advocacy in the community. Following his passion, he then pursued his M.A. in Clinical Counseling at Northwestern University. Matin is a current board member of Chicago Association for Psychoanalytic Psychology (CAPP), as a liaison for graduate students’ involvement in the education of psychoanalytic/dynamic theories.
