Mandy Yingzi Zhang, LSW

Therapist
She/Her/Hers

Mandy is passionate about working with individuals to address issues such as emotional regulation, self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression, cultural conflict, trauma, stress management, and life transitions. As an Asian therapist, she has extensive experience working with different generations of Asian immigrants, multicultural individuals, and others in marginalized communities. She aims to bring mental health services to underserved communities in a linguistically appropriate and culturally sensitive manner. With her friendly and humble personality, she establishes a compassionate, comfortable and safe space for her clients to be where they are.

Mandy utilizes and was trained in a wide range of therapy approaches including EMDR, CBT, Trauma-focused-CBT, ACT, Strength-based, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Culturally-sensitive and Client-centered approaches, etc.

Mandy was born and raised in the Southeast part of China, which enables her to relate to many Asian immigrants’ family culture and values. She went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for Bachelors in Psychology, and later obtained her Masters degree in Clinical Social Work at the University of Chicago. Dancing is the major self-care activity for Mandy and she has practiced it for over a decade. Mandy chose the mental health care field because her mom, a physician for women’s health care and also a Buddhist practitioner, impacted her a lot since she grew up.

Mandy always tells her clients that therapy is like a road trip – she will be sitting in the passenger seat to guide and support the driver, but you are one who is driving this car in the whole trip of your life. She trusts her clients, creates a safe and welcoming space, and empowers them to be their own expert in this healing process.
